Whether you want to work with marine life, land, numbers or policy, TROY's environmental science program allows you to tailor your degree to your interests and strengths. The environmental science major offers five concentrations to help meet your career goals: Biology, Marine Biology, Chemistry, Geography or Mathematics. Environmental Science Degree Concentrations

Biology

In the Biology concentration, you'll explore additional topics in ecology, genetics and wildlife biology. This focus prepares you for careers in wildlife conservation, environmental research and ecological consulting. You can pursue roles like wildlife biologist, conservation scientist or research technician, where you'll contribute to protecting and managing natural resources and biodiversity.

Marine Biology

In the Marine Biology concentration, you'll study marine ecosystems, oceanography and marine life. This focus prepares you for careers in marine conservation, such as marine biologist, oceanographer or marine conservationist, where you'll work to protect and preserve ocean environments and marine species.

Chemistry

In the Chemistry emphasis, you'll focus on environmental chemistry, toxicology and chemical analysis. This emphasis prepares you for careers in environmental testing, pollution control and regulatory compliance. You can pursue roles like environmental chemist, toxicologist or lab analyst, where you'll analyze pollutants, develop solutions for environmental issues and ensure safety and compliance with environmental regulations.

Geography

In the Geography emphasis, you'll study geographic information systems (GIS), cartography and spatial analysis. This emphasis prepares you for careers in environmental planning, GIS analysis and resource management. You can pursue roles like GIS analyst, environmental planner or cartographer, where you'll map and analyze environmental data to support sustainable development and resource management efforts.

Mathematics
In the Mathematics concentration, you'll focus on statistical analysis, modeling and quantitative methods. Groundwater Festival teaches fourth grade students to conserve and preserve water supply

Fourth-grade students from around Pike County visited the Troy Campus Wednesday morning for the 19th annual Groundwater Festival. According to Janet Gatson, a lecturer in the university's Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences, the day is all about environmental education. 鈥淲e are trying to teach children to be mindful and aware,鈥 Gaston said. 鈥淭here is only a certain percentage of water that is drinkable, so we have to conserve and preserve that.鈥
