You'll then need to earn a master's degree in school counseling. You must be a state-certified school counselor with two years of experience to be eligible for the Ed.S. in School Counseling.
To become a school counselor in Alabama, you are required to complete a state-approved program with a minimum 3.25 GPA. This includes a practicum of at least 100 clock hours in a school-based setting and a supervised elementary and secondary school-based internship of at least 600 clock hours. You'll also need two years of full-time professional educational work experience. You must also pass the requirement(s) of the Alabama Educator Certification Assessment Program (AECAP) and clear a background check.
